Registered Safety Officer

The Registered Safety Officer course at Learnovate Training Centre is designed to prepare learners with practical knowledge of workplace health, safety, and risk control. This 3-month programme includes 12 sessions covering safety laws, hazard identification, risk assessment, inspections, incident investigation, fire safety, PPE, work-at-height awareness, equipment safety, chemical safety, HSE documentation, and practical assessment.

Course Curriculum:
Module 1: Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety – Understand the purpose of workplace health and safety, the role of a safety officer, and the importance of preventing accidents and ill health.
Module 2: Health and Safety Laws and Legal Responsibilities – Learn the basic legal duties of employers, employees, contractors, and safety personnel in maintaining safe working environments.
Module 3: Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment – Develop the ability to identify workplace hazards, assess risk levels, and recommend practical control measures.
Module 4: Workplace Inspection and Safety Observation – Learn how to conduct workplace inspections, identify unsafe acts and conditions, and prepare clear inspection findings.
Module 5: Accident, Incident and Near-Miss Investigation – Understand how to report and investigate incidents, identify root causes, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
Module 6: Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness – Gain awareness of fire prevention, emergency response planning, evacuation procedures, and basic emergency coordination.
Module 7: PPE and Workplace Safety Controls – Learn the selection, use, maintenance, and monitoring of personal protective equipment and other workplace safety controls.
Module 8: Working at Height and Scaffolding Safety Awareness – Understand common risks in work-at-height activities and the safety requirements for ladders, scaffolds, and fall protection.
Module 9: Electrical, Mechanical and Equipment Safety – Learn basic safety practices for electrical hazards, machinery, tools, lifting equipment, and workplace equipment operation.
Module 10: Chemical Safety and Hazard Communication – Understand chemical hazards, safe handling, labeling, safety data sheets, storage, and spill response basics.
Module 11: HSE Documentation, Training and Toolbox Talks – Learn how to maintain safety records, prepare toolbox talks, support safety training, and communicate HSE requirements effectively.
Module 12: Practical Safety Officer Assessment and Project – Apply the full course learning through practical safety checklists, risk assessment activities, reporting tasks, and final assessment.

Learners will gain job-focused safety officer skills through theory, practical activities, checklists, case studies, toolbox talk preparation, inspection reporting, and final assessment.
